Legal status
Mixed. FDA-approved peptide drugs (semaglutide as Ozempic/Wegovy/Rybelsus, tirzepatide as Mounjaro/Zepbound) are prescription-only and the only fully legal route. Licensed-compounded peptides (503A patient-specific / 503B outsourcing facilities) are legal only for substances on the FDA 503A/503B bulks lists or with a valid clinical-need exception; mass compounding of GLP-1 copies is no longer permitted now that the shortages have ended. BPC-157, TB-500, ipamorelin, CJC-1295, thymosin and most 'wellness' peptides are NOT FDA-approved and are largely unavailable through legitimate compounding; they are sold only as research-use-only chemicals (not for human use).
The only legitimate route
Approved-drug-only for the GLP-1s: obtain branded Ozempic/Wegovy/Zepbound/Mounjaro via a licensed prescriber or a legitimate telehealth platform that prescribes FDA-approved brand product. Compounded peptides only from a state-licensed 503A pharmacy or FDA-registered 503B outsourcing facility against a valid prescription where a documented clinical need/bulks-list eligibility exists. Non-approved peptides (BPC-157 etc.) have no legitimate consumer route for human use.

How to verify a peptide is legitimate & lab-tested
- Independent third-party Certificate of Analysis (COA) for the specific batch/lotA batch-specific COA from an outside lab confirms what is actually in the vial. In-house-only testing is a conflict of interest because the seller both profits from and certifies the product. The COA should match the exact lot number on your product.
- Testing lab is ISO/IEC 17025 accredited (verifiable on ANAB or A2LA registries)ISO 17025 accreditation means the lab is independently qualified to produce reliable analytical results. You can cross-check the lab's name on the ANAB (ANSI National Accreditation Board) or A2LA registry, so a named, verifiable accredited lab is far more trustworthy than an unnamed one.
- Identity and purity testing by HPLC plus mass spectrometry, with purity (typically >98%) and correct molecular weight documentedHPLC quantifies purity and the chromatogram reveals impurities; mass spectrometry confirms the molecule is actually the labeled peptide and not a substitute or degraded product. Both together verify identity and quality, not just presence.
- Potency within label tolerance (about +/-10%) and a COA dated recently (e.g., within ~90 days)Confirms the dose is accurate and the data is current rather than a stale or recycled certificate. Out-of-tolerance potency means under- or over-dosing risk.

- Batch/lot identity traceability: lot number on the product matches the COA and the pharmacy/manufacturer can trace itLot traceability lets you tie the physical product to its specific test data and enables recalls. If the lot on the vial does not match the COA, the certificate does not actually describe what you received.
